IBOM DEEP SEAPORT

AKWA IBOM YOUTHS : WELCOME TO BLUE ECONOMY... THE FUTURE IS HERE.!

By Linus Effiong

The joy of approval granted Akwa Ibom State for the commencement of Ibom Deep Seaport is a welcome development liken to the frenzy we had the day of our State creation on the 23rd September, 1987 that defined our consciousness, political identity and cultural heritage as a people with one great destiny.

Suffice to say that Ibom Seaport is a marine facility that jumpstart emerging blue economy where the services of professionals and various businessmen form the interplay of forces and dominate the space.

According to World Bank, "Blue economy is a macro economic concept that involves every aspect of national and global governance", which Akwa Ibom is now a major destination in the international map. "It is a sustainable use of ocean resources to drive economic growth, improve livelihoods, and provision of jobs while preserving the health of the ocean ecosystem".

This great feat by Governor of Akwa Ibom State, His Excellency, Mr. Udom Emmanuel is an ambitious leap of Akwa Ibom into economic prosperity, exponential growth and rapid development of our people, but the big question is, how are the youths prepared with their potentials to key into this emerging economy to avoid strangers occupying strategic positions ?

This applaudable breakthrough is a product of resilience, mettlesome and gritty performance of Gov. Udom Emmanuel, which calls for the youths to be trained in various related areas like safety and other  technical aspects to take good advantage of the economic window.

With this, the various enterprise development initiatives instituted by the Governor when he assumed office in 2015 till date is the bedrock of engagement.

On this note, It's worthy to salute the leader who has done what Napoleon the great couldn't do,  Gov. Udom Emmanuel. He saw today some years ago and developed a template of self relevance through Dakkada philosophy.

As a batch of encouragement, it's ethical to commend a dutiful lieutenant, Mr. Akan Okon whose Ministry is saddled with the herculean task of interpreting the vision of Gov. Udom Emmanuel in this direction.

However, a significant impact made by this development is that the youths have a golden chance to rise beyond self pity and joblessness to self redemption, self repositioning and possibly migrating from the traditional political engagement to a new ( blue ) economy.

Though this commendable feat isn't a hundred meters race, it is a moment lthat must be dedicated to visionary leadership where the past and present must be commended. To this view, the foresight of Obong Victor Attah must be acknowledged nay Chief Godswil Akpabio whose administration kept the dream alive for the leader of ( Gov. Udom Emmanuel ) imbued with doggedness and goal getting spirit to do the miracle that pessimists and critics thought it was extremely impossible considering many years on the table of concentric political intrigues.

To this view, the Federal Government of Nigeria under the leadership President Buhari must be appreciated regardless of partisan differences.

PLAZA DESIGN

 A food court (in Nigeria

also called food hall or hawker centre) is generally an indoor plaza or common area within a facility that is contiguous with the counters of multiple food vendors and provides a common area for self-serve dinner. Food courts may be found in shopping malls, airports, and parks

TRADITIONAL METHOD OF ARCHITECTURE IN NIGERIA

The history of world architecture as a whole can be grouped into five major periods: ancient era, antiquity era, middle ages, industrial revolution (XIX century) era and modern (technological cum scientific) era. The Egyptian, Babylonian, Mesopotamian, Far East civilization of India and China are known to belong to the ancient era. The Greek and Roman civilizations are of antiquity, while the Byzantine, Christianity and Islamic civilization are of the middle ages as well as the monuments of Rokoko, Baroko, Renaissance, Gothic and so on that are all over Europe till this day. The Industrial revolution era are known with Classicism, Romanism, Neo-renaissance, Ecceleticism schools of architecture. The Modern era are known with Model, Modernism, Post-Modernism, and so on.

In this context, Nigerian National Architecture can be grouped into five periods as well in line with the history of World Architecture as follows: Nigerian Ancient Architecture (NAA), Nigerian Traditional Architecture (NTA), Nigerian Colonial Architecture (NCA), Nigerian Modern Architecture (NMA) and Nigerian Architecture Today (NAT).

The Nigerian Ancient Architecture (NAA) stands for Ancient era characterized by the prehistoric Nigerian civilization of Nok, the SO of Chad Basin, Prehistoric Yoruba and Prehistoric Igbo (fig. 3).

Fig. 3- Prehistorical Nigeria

In the real sense as at 900B.C. or a l   ittle earlier, Nok civilization had been in existence which of course had been more advanced that the other three (SO of Chad Basin, Prehistoric Yorubas and Prehistoric Igbos) civilizations. The Nok people were core of this civilization that can be found in the village of Nok in Zaria province of Kaduna state. The available information on these Nigerian Ancient Civilizations are from oral traditions and archeological data, some of which are dated back to 1000B.C.

The Nigerian Traditional Architecture (NTA) stands for the Antiquity periods characterized by the historical native kingdoms and empires. It must be noted that the first stage of penetration of foreigners in the middle ages is the Islamic/Arab cultural penetration from the North and the Europeans penetrations from the South by way of slave trading and much later by Christianity thereby ending the foundation of the original undiluted native kingdom civilizations. And of course the NTA, though this process later enriched the same in terms of durable building materials and building technologies, paving the way for Nigerian Colonial Architecture (NCA).

The second stage of this penetration was in XIX century i.e. in the North in 1804 by Fulani Jihad and A.D. 1861-1902 by British unholy wars in the South thus laying the foundation of Nigerian Colonial Architecture.

The Middle Ages stood for the Nigerian Colonial Architecture (NCA). Nigerian Modern Architecture (NMA) was from 1960-2000 while Nigerian Architecture Today (NAT) from 2000 till now is here with us.

Finally, we can say that Nigerian Traditional Architecture (NTA) can be equalized in principles with that World history of Architecture (antiquity era) while the first half of middle ages stood for the transitional period from NTA to Nigerian Colonial Architecture (NCA)

HOW TO DESIGN A GOOD SITTING ROOM

While designing your living room, it’s a good idea to think about certain key aspects like space available, the colours to be used, the kind of furniture and accessories you fancy. When styling larger rooms, use of space is crucial. Strategic use of carpets, furniture can help to a balanced environment, that is pleasurable to spend time in. But if there is space constraint, it is all about giving the impression of space. Select clever colour schemes for the walls, add textures with bricks or tiles, and find the right balance of furnishings to create a relaxing atmosphere. You can also style up the room using vivid colours or cool, pastel tones as per your wishes.

What wall colour should I use in my living room?

A living room is the space where people spend plenty of time, so it is important to create a balanced atmosphere. Usually, for smaller rooms, white walls or pastel tones are appropriate. Bold colours can optically reduce the impression of space. However, in larger living rooms, you can use vivid colours and patterns, depending on the style that is being implemented.

What type of flooring should I use in my living room?

There are plenty of options to use for living room floors, and you can choose from stone, wood and tiles or even cover the floor entirely or partly with a carpet. A rug or carpet will create a soft and comfortable surface for the colder months. In cooler climates, it’s a great idea to have a soft furnishing to add some extra comfort. Also wooden furniture can be used timelessly and gives the impression of elegant and classy. High quality wooden floor could be perfect for your living room but requires high maintenance.

How do I select a living room design?

It completely depends on the people what mood they want to create within the living room. People who often move houses, or are open to experiment with interior design, a minimalist style living room may be ideal as it is simpler to rearrange furniture and accessories after moving. Bigger families may prefer a well furnished and spacious living room, while couples and young people may go for modern living room designs.

Are there any specific living room decorating tips?

The best advice while decorating a living room is to find a balance between modern and flexible furniture. In smaller living rooms, make maximum use of the space by installing the television in a wall-mounted cabinet. Don’t go overboard on decoration, and try to manage the amount of seating space so that people can move around easily. Many people also like to include a decorative focal point like a mirror or painting to to the room. Flowers located around the room add to a light, organic effect. Balance and harmony are key at all times when designing a living room.

What happens if I have a small living room?

A small living room can present a few design challenges, but with the right design ideas, small spaces can be transformed to create magnificent living rooms. Small living room ideas include using lighter colours to give the impression of space, and avoiding bright tones. Try not to fill the room with accessories and decorative stuff, although a couple of paintings or flowers are welcome. Using clever furniture in the living room and paying attention to light makes the space cosy and welcoming.

What are some of the most popular living room decorating ideas?

Country style living rooms: A country style living room design often include traditional features like large brick-built hearths, broad timber beams and carpets, although undecorated wooden floors work really well in a country style living room. Large dining tables and accessories like candles can also be great additions.

Minimalist living rooms: Drawing on the techniques of modernist architecture, minimalism is all about making the most out of as little as possible. Stark, sleek lines combine well with open space, strategically placed carpets and seating to simplify the living room as much as possible. The challenge is to create a harmonious minimalist living room without making it seem cold .

Classic living rooms: A classic living room is spacious and has abundant light. Generally, classic designs have generous seating, bright colours and decorations, but will avoid any loss of balance or poise in the arrangement. Flowers are a fine addition to any classical living room, adding warmth and lightness to the arrangement.

Rustic style living rooms: Rustic style living rooms are generally large, spacious and welcoming. Big windows and decorative curtains combined with brick fireplaces, sideboards and wooden floors, along with impressive timber beams to create living spaces where the whole family can spend quality time together.

Modern living rooms: Modern living rooms sit between the stylish minimalist designs and the energy of classic designs. They are never cluttered or chaotic, with skilfully chosen decorations and accessories such as designer seating and lighting. A classically modern living room design will generally avoid bright colours, preferring pure white walls and muted tones.

To prevent the spread of COVID-19:
· Clean your hands often. Use soap and water, or an alcohol-based hand rub.
· Maintain a safe distance from anyone who is coughing or sneezing.
· Wear a mask when physical distancing is not possible.
· Don’t touch your eyes, nose or mouth.
· Cover your nose and mouth with your bent elbow or a tissue when you cough or sneeze.

THIS TO CONSIDER WHEN BUY A LAND

Questions When Buying Land

The idea of settling down on a picturesque piece of property, away from the daily hustle and bustle of city living, has a broad appeal. Excitement increases when stepping foot onto an untouched parcel of land, but with that a slew of questions unfold. This article will help uncover the right questions to ask the seller, and other public officials, before pulling the trigger on the ideal property.

First and foremost, talk with your family about the property in question. Make sure to visit the site during different times of day, and if possible, when it rains or snows to learn if the property remains soggy or has drainage issues.

Do you like the views? Sunlight throughout the day?
Do you like the neighborhood? Local schools? Taxes?
Will you have a commute to work, groceries, or medical care?
Is the land and associated costs within your budget?
How will the site look in 5 years? Is there other nearby development that could change what you currently like about the property?
Questions for the Seller, or Seller’s Agent
The seller, or the seller’s agent, is the best place to start asking questions. Make sure to follow up with the appropriate town officials and confirm that the information is reliable, if proper documentation is not provided.

Is the lot buildable?
Any liens? Right-of-ways? Easements? Covenants? Other deed restrictions?
Is electrical power, natural gas, water, and sewer accessible to the site?
Are the property boundaries clearly defined?
Will there be a HOA (homeowners association) fees?
Does the site have drinkable water?
Has a septic system been designed? A perc test completed?
Is there construction plans for surrounding land?
Questions for the Utility Companies
Talk with the seller, or neighbors, about what utility companies service the area. You may want to provide a site map with the location of where your home will reside on the property. For power and natural gas, ask each company what the total cost will be, including fees, trenching, and meter installation. For power, will the lines be run underground? If on poles, are there any obstructions that need to be considered or removed?

You will want to determine your options for phone, cell phone, cable, and high-speed internet. Can you reduce costs by combining multiple services from one company, and what are the setup and monthly fees?

Visit the Building and Health Departments
A trip to the building and health department will be your next step. Depending on your town, there may be some overlap on the topics handled by either building or zoning.

Building Department
Can you place the home on the property where you want?
Are there restrictions on the size of house, height, lot coverage, etc?
How many bedrooms are allowed and are there setback requirements based on your plan?
Is there adequate access to the home and is the road publicly maintained?
What are the costs for permits, and other fees?
Health Department
Is there sewer service? If so, what are the connection costs and fees?
Has a perc test been completed, and what type of septic system is permitted?
Any known problems in the surrounding area with respect to water quality or well yield? If poor soil for a septic system, what are the alternatives?
You will also want to contact the planning and zoning department to confirm your home plan complies with zoning. Determine that the lot was subdivided legally and whether there are any restrictions that should be noted.

When possible, try and get the answers in writing and keep records of all of the information gained. Beware of phrases like “you should be able to” or “I don’t know why that would be a problem.” If this is a theme with a particular contact, go to the proper authorities for a definitive .
